Don't Trash the 'Nati

Wednesday, April 25, 2007

I'm surprised about how anxious I am feeling about our first dance at the wedding (coming up in less than 5 weeks, folks). It is more difficult that I expected to choose a song. When Todd and I try to practice dancing around our apartment it ends up being an awkward few minutes. I usually end up leading (by accident) and we only shuffle around in a circle, making me feel like I'm barefoot in the Power Middle School gym for a school dance.

In a perfect world, Todd and I planned to take some dance lessons. But now it's too late so shuffling around awkwardly will have to do.

Now if only Todd could find a sense of rhythm...

This has nothing to do with wedding dancing, though I am sure that it will be absolutely beautiful...I am sorry that you are moving to another MCRI state...

An MCRI In The 'Show-Me' State
The Missouri Civil Rights Initiative (MCRI) is going ahead with plans
for a November 2008 ballot measure to ban government-sponsored race
and gender preferences in that state. Anti-affirmative action
activists say the MCRI will be part of a "Super Tuesday" where
virtually the same measure will be on ballots in several states.

The Missouri Civil Rights Initiative's news release this week featured
quotes by Tim ASHER, former director of admissions as North Central
Missouri College. According to the release, Asher's contract at the
state school was not renewed after he raised questions about the
college's preferential admissions policies.

The language of the proposed Missouri ballot initiative reads as follows:

The state shall not discriminate against or grant preferential
treatment to any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color,
ethnicity or national origin in the operation of public employment,
public education or public contracting.

Other states anti-affirmative action activists say they hope it will
be part of its Super Tuesday in November 2008, which is a plan to
include Arizona, Colorado and Oklahoma among others.

Ward CONNERLY, chairman of the Sacramento-based American Civil Rights
Institute, is seen by many as the driving force behind the Super
Tuesday effort. Connerly has said that passage of the Michigan Civil
Rights Initiative last November by a solid margin was a step toward
bringing the same concept to other states.

Jennifer GRATZ, who headed the MCRI movement in Michigan after winning
a U.S. Supreme Court case involving race preferences, is also involved
in the multi-state effort.

There are some great "learn-it-yourself" wedding dance DVD's. Check 'em out. That is what my husband and I did and it was great! We learned how to dance in just a weekend! Good luck and many blessings on your new marriage. P.S. Give Tanya a HUGE hug for me! ~Meg

I think you should embrace your lack of dancing skills and just use "When I'm 64." You can both just kind of bob up and down for most of it, it's fairly short, (like 2:30), and everyone knows and loves the song, so they'll be too busy singing along to pay attention to you and Todd.

I am officially brilliant.
